Step 01
Schemes & age limits
Pakistan permits used vehicle imports under three schemes: Personal Baggage, Transfer of Residence, and Gift. Each requires Pakistani residency or overseas-Pakistani status, plus minimum stay abroad. Commercial import of new vehicles is also possible but rare in our channel.
Under personal baggage / gift, the age cap is 3 years from the month of manufacture for cars and 5 years for jeeps/4x4s and pickups. Vehicles older than that are not cleared.
Step 02
Engine-band duty structure
FBR calculates duty on engine displacement, not invoice value. Bands (USD-equivalent of duties + RD + GST + IT + WHT):
- Up to 800cc, ~USD 4,800
- 801–1000cc, ~USD 6,000
- 1001–1300cc, ~USD 13,200
- 1301–1500cc, ~USD 18,600
- 1501–1800cc, ~USD 23,400
- 1801cc and above, ~USD 32,000+
Hybrids in the 1300–1800cc band enjoy a 50% duty rebate, which is why Toyota Aqua, Prius, and C-HR Hybrid dominate our Pakistan shipments. Numbers above are indicative, FBR notifies revisions mid-year; we'll quote the current rate.
Step 03
Most-imported models through our Karachi channel
- Toyota Aqua / Prius, best duty math, huge resale market
- Toyota C-HR Hybrid, top-end of small-engine hybrid bracket
- Honda Vezel Hybrid, Pakistan's perennial crossover favourite
- Suzuki Wagon R / Alto Hybrid, entry-segment workhorses
- Land Cruiser Prado / Lexus LX, under 5-year jeep rule (high-end TOR)
Step 04
Karachi clearance and upcountry transport
On arrival at Karachi, customs assesses duty against the FBR valuation. A licensed clearing agent files the GD (Goods Declaration); we work with two preferred agents we've used for years. Typical port-to-release window is 5–10 working days if paperwork is in order.
Inland transport from Karachi to Peshawar, Lahore, Islamabad or beyond is handled by enclosed carriers; transit time 3–5 days. Our Peshawar office can take handover directly if you're upcountry.
Step 05
Document pack — what you receive
- Original Japanese Export Certificate (deregistration)
- JAAI / auction grade sheet
- Commercial invoice (in USD, signed)
- Bill of Lading
- Photocopy of passport / TOR documents (as supplied by you)

Common questions from Pakistan buyers
- I'm an overseas Pakistani, can I send a car to family in Lahore?
- Yes, under the Gift scheme, once you've stayed abroad for ≥180 days in the preceding 7 months. The recipient must be a family member by FBR's definition. We can guide you through the documentation.
- How long does the whole process take, end to end?
- Quote and booking: 1–3 days. JAAI/inspection and loading: 1–2 weeks. Sailing: ~25 days. Karachi clearance: 5–10 days. Upcountry transport: 3–5 days. Total: typically 7–9 weeks from order to delivery in Peshawar.
- Why is the Aqua/C-HR pricing so popular?
- Hybrid 50% duty rebate plus excellent fuel economy makes them the lowest cost-per-km option in Pakistan's price bands. Our Peshawar showroom partners move them within 2 weeks of arrival.
