IR Nippon manga brandManga · 漫画

Second Life

A serialized manga, drawn chapter by chapter, that follows the cars we pull apart in Yokohama and the people who put them back together somewhere else in the world.

献辞 · Dedication

For the readers in Japan and beyond the seas —
those who once turned the brittle pages of paper manga by lamplight,
and who still hear poetry in the breath of an engine.
This book is yours.

Chapter 01 panel 01 — Ashes and Tyre Tracks
IR Nippon
01

Smoke still rises in straight lines from corners that used to be houses. The boy stands inside a kasuri kimono his mother patched with rice sacks, his wooden geta sandals balanced on a brick that used to be a bakery.

02

An American jeep passes him without slowing. It does not see him. It sees only the road, which is no longer a road, only the memory of one. The tyre tread sinks into the ash and leaves behind a pattern the boy will dream about for the rest of his life.

03

He kneels. He places his palm inside the tread. The rubber has carried a country across the ocean and pressed it into his own. He does not understand this yet. He only knows the warmth of it.

Cast · 登場人物

Five silhouettes.
Five soils. One soul.

Japan

The Keeper

Yokohama dismantler, third generation of his line

Nissan Skyline R34 GT V Spec II, IR Nippon livery

Attire

Indigo samue jacket, white hachimaki tied at the brow, jika tabi boots, an omamori charm at the wrist.

He does not dismantle. He performs a funeral so quiet that the engine forgets it has died.

In his own tongue

Otsukaresama, old friend. Sleep now. Somewhere far from here, a stranger will wake you, and you will run again.

Pakistan

The Rebuilder

Karachi importer, third generation mechanic on Plot 47, Sher Shah

Toyota Mark II JZX100 with a transplanted heart

Attire

Cream shalwar kameez rolled at the cuff, white prayer cap, sandals scuffed by decades of brake dust.

He believes every machine carries a soul, and that soul owes nothing to the country that built it.

In his own tongue

Bismillah. Yaar, listen, this engine has prayed in another language, but the heartbeat is the same. Bas, start ho ja meri jaan.

Saudi Arabia

The Drifter

Riyadh night runner, falconer by morning

Nissan Silvia S15 carrying a Skyline drivetrain

Attire

Snow white thobe pressed at dawn, red and white ghutra fastened by a black ighal, a silver janbiya tucked at the waist.

He treats a slide the way his grandfather treated a falcon in flight. A controlled prayer above the sand.

In his own tongue

Alhamdulillah ya akhi. The wind tells you where to turn, ya akhi, the wind. Allahu akbar, ma huwa sayyara al leila, huwa sagar fi al sama.

United States

The Hybrid Builder

Long Beach fabricator, a child of two flags and one unfinished promise

Mazda RX 7 FD, Japanese organs grafted into a Californian body

Attire

Backwards snapback, sleeveless flannel over a hoodie, forearm tattoos of his late father's racing number.

He builds the way his city talks. Loud on the surface, devastatingly honest underneath.

In his own tongue

Yo, this thing's breathin', dawg. Straight up, ain't nothin' on the strip that sounds like her. We ridin' tonight, period.

China

The Architect

Shenzhen parts archivist, keeper of a ledger no government asked him to keep

Toyota Supra MK4, tuned by data the way a poet is tuned by silence

Attire

Black mandarin collar jacket, slim trousers, a single jade bead bracelet from his mother.

He does not see cars. He sees a constellation, and he is patient enough to wait for the stars to align.

In his own tongue

Ni kan. Look here. Every serial, every shipment, they sing the same song. Wo zhi dao. I have always known.

Visual direction

Hyper detailed.
Deliberately faceless.

Each panel is grounded in the real fabric of its city. Indigo cotton, embroidered prayer caps, pressed white thobes, sun bleached flannel, the soft sheen of a mandarin collar at midnight. Cars carry the signature of the soil that adopted them. The IR Nippon wordmark, stamped on every crate, decal, and door, ties the diaspora back to a single yard in Tsurumi.

Identity lives entirely in posture, garment, and the way a hand rests on metal. Faces are absent, because the story is not about a face. It is about what a person inherits, and what they refuse to let die.

IR Nippon

Final creative goal

What one country discards, another country dresses in its own clothes, teaches its own prayers, and sends back into the world transformed. Passion is the only language fluent in every accent.
